About Event

Prepare for next year's wildfire season today!

Join us a little ways off Highway 2 to learn how to turn your woody debris from creating defensible space or pruning into a valuable soil amendment - while sequestering carbon and limiting smoke in the air!

Please feel free to forward this event to local friends and neighbors so you all can benefit from less debris pile smoke and reduced wildfire risk.

Schedule

  • Kiln Loading: 10 am

  • Ignition: 11 am

  • Conservation Burn-pile Building Session: 12 pm

  • Kiln Quench: 3 pm

  • Wrap up: 4 pm

There will be multiple biochar-related topics for us to cover in-between kiln loadings, with plenty of time for Q&A along the way - bring your questions and your curiosity!

Details & Safety

The check-in area will be found close to the Garage (see image below).

We request all attendees to review and sign waivers to help ensure a safe environment for working with fire. Even if you're only observing, please wear a hat, long sleeves & pants from natural materials like cotton.

While the Cascadia Prescribed Burn Association will graciously be providing some light refreshments, please plan on bringing plenty of water and a sack lunch.

Restrooms are available on the property in the Garage (see image below), a short walk from the demonstration site area.

Directions & Parking

From Leavenworth, go past the state rest stop, cross over Nason Creek, then turn right onto Nason Ridge Road.

From Stevens Pass, turn left on Nason Ridge Road (approx. 0,25 miles past mile marker 81).

Follow Nason Ridge Road to the tee, turn right. Drive down to the destroyed bridge and turn left onto Blue Sky Meadows Road. Turn left on Blue Sky Meadows Road and follow the gravel road around the horseshoe and up & around the hill. Continue down the road (approx. 0.5 miles) and turn right into the property.

Reference the image below for parking locations.

Please note:

  • Chelan County considers 17400 Blue Sky Meadows Road as unassigned. Chelan County considers 17450 Blue Sky Meadows Road as 17696 Blue Sky Meadows Road and sometime in the past 17696 Nason Ridge Road.

  • The street sign for Dardanelles Road actually says "Nason Ridge Road".  The street sign for Dardanelles Road is on the wrong side of Highway 2 and the wrong side of Nason Creek."
