Rewiring between Primary and Secondary care: What's the ambition?

​The relationship between Primary and Secondary care is being rewritten by the policies and tools that sit between them.

​Advice and guidance is now the first step before a planned care referral, and providers are creating Single Points of Access to consolidate referral routes. In August, HSSIB found that in specific cases this has already contributed to delayed and missed diagnoses.

​Meanwhile our technology is changing in both capability and adoption. Ambient Voice Technology has moved from pilot to routine in two years, and AI has become widespread in our lives and work. Agents and low-code platforms are giving people the agency to experiment and build far faster than traditional procurement cycles and culture change.

​The question is: How do we want this space between Primary and Secondary Care to change? And who is responsible for it?

​Pritesh Mistry is a Fellow in Digital Technologies at The King's Fund, researching the promise and reality of digital tools in healthcare. He previously led on innovation at the Royal College of General Practitioners and worked at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital.

​He will be in conversation with Dr Ben Walker, Clinical Strategy at Anima and a former NHS doctor, followed by open Q&A.
