Beyond Platforms: Growing & Sustaining Technical Commons for Collective Action
As a continuation of our Common Infrastructure for Collective Action salon series, Salon 2 invites leaders, technologists, practitioners, and systems stewards to explore the technical infrastructures that enable sustained coordination. Building on our first gathering’s focus on social foundations, this session turns to the shared systems that help networks move beyond connection toward greater coherence, transparency, and resilience.
Often conversations about technology focus on individual platforms or tools. This salon looks beneath the surface to explore the broader technical commons: the governance models, interoperability standards, data practices, and cooperative approaches that enable collaborative infrastructure to be stewarded as a shared resource rather than fragmented across initiatives.
Together, we will examine what it takes to build technical ecosystems that serve the common good—systems designed for adaptability, mutual visibility, shared learning, and long-term sustainability. Through showcase examples and facilitated dialogue, participants will explore how aligned technical infrastructure can strengthen network effects, reduce duplication, support community agency, and expand the field’s collective capacity for coordinated action.
Join us as we deepen the dialogue and continue cultivating the shared foundations needed for collective thriving.
