Rolf Apweiler
Founder of UniProt, the world's leading protein knowledgebase, Director Emeritus of the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), and one of the pioneers of modern bioinformatics. At EMBL-EBI, he helped build the biological data resources and infrastructure that millions of scientists rely on every day and that power many of today's AI-driven discoveries in biology and medicine. He will share how decades of building trusted biological knowledge are accelerating the next generation of scientific breakthroughs.
Hans Binder
Professor Hans Binder is an internationally recognized computational biologist whose research combines AI, single-cell genomics, and systems biology to better understand cancer and advance precision medicine. As Chairman of the Armenian Bioinformatics Institute's (ABI) Board of Trustees, he also leads research on Armenian grapevine genomics, demonstrating how the same computational approaches can improve healthcare while helping preserve one of Armenia's most valuable biological and cultural treasures.
Lilit Nersisyan
Dr. Lilit Nersisyan is the Founding Director of the Armenian Bioinformatics Institute (ABI) and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellow. She earned her PhD jointly at the Institute of Molecular Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia and Leipzig University, followed by postdoctoral research at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, before returning to Armenia to build the country's leading center for bioinformatics research and education. Her work spans genomics, microbiome research, precision medicine, and training the next generation of computational biologists. She will join the audience Q&A to discuss Armenia's growing role in this rapidly evolving field.
