About Event

​Beyond Trends is a dynamic event that draws connections between sustainability, fashion justice, animal rights, and mindful consumption featuring activists, thought leaders, and innovators.

It takes place during Black Climate Week and is hosted by the California Center for Climate Change Education at WLAC and co-organized by Bodhisattvism, Black Girl Environmentalist, Seeding Sovereignty, The Solutions Project, and Collective Fashion Justice.

Schedule:

  • 11:00 am - 12:30 pm: Outdoor Vurger Guyz food truck* and mingling with local organizations

  • 12:30 pm - 2 pm: Two Panel Discussions

    • Black women and gender expansive leaders in climate justice + sustainable fashion

    • Climate justice-informed fashion innovators + upcyclers

  • 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm: Documentary Film Screening - "Slay"

  • 3:30 pm - 4:00 pm: Yoga-based processing + grounding session

This event offers an engaging platform to explore the intersection of sustainability, fashion, and social justice, featuring insightful panel discussions, a thought-provoking documentary screening, and rejuvenating Yoga and mindfulness session. 

Join us as we embark on a journey towards a more sustainable and equitable world of fashion.

Open to all community members, including students, educators, activists, business owners, and those interested in sustainable fashion and climate justice.

About West Los Angeles College & the Center for Climate Education:

With the creation of its California Center for Climate Education, West LA College is the new, green epicenter for environmental education and innovation. The Center is focused exclusively on climate change solutions, and job creation to meet the demands of the future workforce. The Center was funded through a $5-million state allocation (AB 1913 – CA Assemblymember Isaac Bryan) and $1.3 million in federal dollars from then-Congresswoman Karen Bass and Senator Alex Padilla. Subsequently, West boasts the first and only – degree and certificate programs in Climate Change & Environmental Studies among the 116 California community colleges.

West is an ACCJC-accredited California Community College that offers career certificates and associate degrees as well as paths to transfer to competitive universities as a Junior. West also offers Bachelor’s degrees in Dental Hygiene and Avionics. Students can enroll full-time or part-time, in-person or in the college’s award-winning online program.
