About Event

While our economy stands to gain a lot from the next big thing in tech, many in creative sectors seem inadequately compensated when their work is used to train models.

Regulation takes time, big tech is powerful, and 'superintellience' is an attention hog. So...

  • What does regulatory discussion among governments and tech companies look like right now?

  • What does a future look like where AI is trained ethically?

  • Is the incoming economic impact of AI too big to get caught up in IP?

Speakers

Joe Reeve was Head of AI at a public Californian tech company when GPT-3 was released, since then he’s been pushing Language, Image, Audio, and Coding models as far as possible. He’s currently working at one of europe’s fastest growing foundation-model companies.

Dan Howl is Head of Policy at BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT, where he leads the organisation’s engagement with government, civil society, and industry on technology policy. BCS is the professional body for IT, entrusted through their Royal Charter to promote and advance the education and practice of computing for the benefit of the public.

Format

This is an Unconference (discussion event) where guests are invited to bring their knowledge, concerns, and interests around the present and future impact of generative AI on IP law and the creative industries.

We'll open with two speakers, and food will be provided during the break. Please arrive at 18:30 for a 19:00 start.

This is a cosy event for small, informed discussions. It's recommended that you 'clue up' beforehand, or otherwise come prepared to spend you time listening.
