About Event

As the climate field matures, the conversation is shifting from identifying solutions to implementing them in complex, real-world contexts. This session explores what “climate solutions” look like today, and how they are developed, tested, and applied across sectors.

Grounded in real-world capstone projects from UC Berkeley’s Master of Climate Solutions, the session brings to life how emerging leaders and industry partners are working together to translate climate ambition into tangible outcomes. Through a curated panel featuring both students and professional collaborators, we’ll highlight current approaches to problem-solving across areas such as sustainable food systems, corporate strategy, and value chain transformation.

Moderator:

  • Sharmila Singh, Director of Career Services, UC Berkeley Master of Climate Solutions; Founder, Green Lens Consulting

Speakers:

  • Paul Lightfoot, General Manager, Patagonia Provisions

  • Ratnika Prasad, Director of Operations, Symbiosis Coalition

  • Ava Barnett, Regenerative Agriculture, Sustainable Cuisine, Food Waste, UC Berkeley Master of Climate Solutions

  • Effie Angus, Regenerative Agriculture, Sustainable Food, Farmer Empowerment, UC Berkeley Master of Climate Solutions

  • Zoe Hall, Nature-Based Solutions, Carbon Markets, Conservation Finance, UC Berkeley Master of Climate Solutions

Session Objectives:

  • Ground the concept of “climate solutions” in real-world application rather than theory

  • Showcase the role of emerging talent working alongside industry leaders

  • Highlight cross-sector collaboration as a critical driver of progress

  • Offer practical insights into what it takes to implement solutions in today’s operating environment

At a moment when the climate space is navigating both urgency and complexity, there is an increasing need to move beyond high-level ambition and toward actionable, scalable solutions. By spotlighting applied work already underway, this session offers a clear-eyed view into how progress is actually being made, and what the next generation of leaders is learning in the process.
