You’ve watched the “innovation economy” bleed out its promise—universities hoarding patents, startups acquired just to be shelved, researchers fleeing for scraps of tenure. But in the basements of old tobacco warehouses, in backyard greenhouses and hacked-together community labs, something wilder is taking root.
Let’s gather the grad school refugees who slipped the leash, the data scientists turned saboteurs, the punks with pipettes scrawling CRISPR graffiti across petri dishes, the herbalists tending outlaw crops in the cracks of Research Triangle Park.
The world is burning and RTP’s executives are still pitching slides, raising another round on the promise of immortality pills while pharma cartels jack up the price of insulin and universities cut another deal with Big Ag.
We’re done playing nice.
This isn’t a networking event. This is a resistance node. A clandestine convergence of the Biopunk underground: rogue biologists, DIY hackers, anarchist healers, and innovators rewilding biotech.
