Opening Remarks: Kissa Kissa Kissa Soirée
Morris Lapidus began his autobiography, Too Much Is Never Enough, with the words: "A pyramid in Brooklyn."
Tonight, we celebrate a journey from pyramid to pyramid, from symbol to sound, and from Biscayne Bay to San Francisco Bay—elevating the room with "a light in the strangest of places."
Continuing our theme, Art in History in Art:
"Good evening, everyone, and welcome.
We are gathered here at the Sagamore on sacred creative ground, launching a journey that stretches from Brooklyn to the ocean, from the shores of San Francisco to Biscayne Bay.
This evening marks the opening chapter of Art in History in Art—a postcard from Florida, sealed with love.
It is the opening drumroll from Florida, paying tribute to Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead.
Tonight, we set the stage with an art exhibition curated by Steve Hurlburt, inspired by the ecstatic vision of Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia's song that wrote "Scarlet Begonias".
We begin tonight by building momentum through the Miami Book Fair and carrying that energy straight into Art Basel.
Along the way, we acknowledge our own Wall of Sound at the New World Symphony (NWS) SoundScape—a miniaturized version of the Grateful Dead's legendary Wall of Sound.
