Full Moon on Fire at Perigee House: Hunter’s Moon in Taurus
Beloved community, the Hunter’s Moon is rising, and we’re gathering to meet it.
On Monday, October 26, Full Moon on Fire returns in a smaller, simpler format. Up to 20 of us will gather at Perigee House, a home in West Philly, for rituals, an open mic, and a fire to close the night. Doors at 7pm. Rituals and open mic begin at 7:30pm.
What the moon is up to this month
This moon is full in Taurus while the sun moves through Scorpio, so the two great lights face each other across the dark. In autumn the moon’s path tilts at a shallow angle to the horizon, which lets it rise close to sunset for several nights in a row. That extra evening light is why the Algonquin peoples called this the Hunter’s or Travel Moon, and why hunters and farmers could work late to prepare for winter.
Taurus is ruled by Venus, the sign of the body, the senses, appetite, and everything we value enough to keep. Scorpio season goes down to the root, to what we bury, what decays, and what is ready to burn. Samhain, the old midpoint between equinox and solstice when the veil is said to be thinnest, meets us five days after this moon. The moon moves the oceans, and the old stories say it moves us too.
What we’ll do
Short, hands-on rituals, built so you can join in or simply watch:
A Taurus ritual of the senses with honey and salt. Scent and taste have a direct line to memory, which is part of why a flavor can call up a ghost.
A Scorpio banishing for what we’re ready to release.
A Hunter’s Moon ritual: what are you hunting this winter, and what will you burn to get there?
A moment at the altar for our ancestors and the people we’re carrying across the veil.
An open mic with five spots. Sign-up opens when doors do. Any kind of act is welcome as long as it connects to the moon or its themes, and leading your own ritual is an act option, too.
A fire outside to close, where we burn what we would like to release.
The setup
Couches and floor seating inside. Bring a cushion or blanket if you like to get cozy.
A makeshift altar on the dining room table. Bring a photo, an object, or an offering if you feel called to add to our temporary altar (will be dismantled at the end of the night).
BYOB and potluck. Seltzers and disposable cups, plates, and forks are on me. Bring food to share if you like.
The fire is outside, so dress warm.
20 people maximum. Register to hold your spot. Update your registration if you can't make it so we can make room for others, please.
Fire tender wanted: I’m looking for one person to build and tend our fire for the closing ritual. Wood, kindling, fire pit, and ways to light it are all provided. If you want the role, email Moon Mama (Danielle) at danielle.levsky@gmail.com.
Nobody is paid. This is a community gathering, and everyone who comes helps hold it. The address goes to registered guests.
