Different Minds, Shared Stories: What We Do(n’t) Know About Neurodiversity

This meeting of the Berlin Circle is dedicated to the topic of neurodiversity — the natural variation in how human minds work. We will focus on two widely discussed forms of neurodivergence: autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The discussion will explore how these differences shape perception, behavior, communication, and everyday experience, as well as the challenges and strengths associated with neurodivergent ways of thinking.

Preparation & Suggested Materials

To help you prepare for the discussion, we’ve curated a selection of materials that approach the topic of neurodiversity from different perspectives and levels of depth. This allows you to engage with the theme in a way that best fits your interests and available time.

The reading list includes:

  • Popular science and personal narratives — books that combine research with lived experience of autistic and ADHD individuals.

  • Scientific and review articles — research-based texts on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), including current perspectives from psychology, neuroscience, and psychiatry.

  • Media materials — short videos, interviews, podcasts, and curated article collections offering accessible entry points and diverse personal voices.

You don’t need to read everything. Choosing one book, article, or media source is enough to take part in the discussion. You’re also welcome to bring your own material, as long as it relates to the topic of neurodiversity.

All suggested readings and links are collected in a shared document, which you can access via the link:
