Mobile App Builders Club - How to prompt like an Engineer, with Ivan, ex-Uber and Meta engineer and Modaal founder
Prompt Like an Engineer — Weekly Online Session
A free 45-minute session for non-technical builders who want to ship a real native iOS app.
This week, Modaal co-founder Ivan Misuno (ex-Uber, Meta — 20+ years of native iOS) shares his screen and walks you through how he actually thinks when he prompts. Live, with real examples from real projects.
If you've ever wondered why some prompts give you exactly what you wanted, and others send you into 10 rounds of "no, not like that" — this one's for you.
What we cover
How an engineer breaks down a task BEFORE typing a single word
Good prompts vs. bad prompts — side by side, with real examples
How to prompt for debugging (worth showing up just for this)
How to split a complex feature into sections the agent can actually handle
What to do when your prompt didn't land — how to recover instead of starting over
Who this is for
PMs, designers, founders, and indie builders who are using AI agents to build real native iOS apps — not prototypes, not web wrappers. You don't need a technical background. You need 45 minutes, something worth building, and the willingness to bring your messiest prompt — we might workshop it live.
After the session
You'll know exactly how to prompt your way through real product work. Sign up for Modaal and keep building.
What you need to get started
A Mac — any Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS Tahoe (26) or later
Xcode 26 — free from the Mac App Store; set aside ~40 GB of disk space and some time for the download
Modaal — download the macOS app and start for free
An Apple ID — needed for Xcode; the free tier is enough to start building and testing in the simulator
Hosted by Ivan Misuno, CPTO and co-founder of Modaal.
