About Event

Ocean and coasts are central to climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience; ocean-based measures are now reflected in over three-quarters of countries Nationally Determined Contributions. The upcoming 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) offers a timely opportunity to scale ambition and implementation of ocean-based climate action, including the conservation and restoration of marine and coastal blue carbon ecosystems.

This webinar, hosted by Conservation International and the International Blue Carbon Institute (IBCI), will convene policymakers, negotiators and relevant stakeholders to discuss key policy recommendations for COP31, exchange perspectives on opportunities for enhanced action at the national and international scale, and highlight lessons learned and best practices from coastal and marine Nature-based Solutions in Southeast Asia.

Event objectives include:

  • Increase awareness and uptake of key policy recommendations among policymakers and negotiators to help inform discussions, positions, and outcomes of UNFCCC COP31 negotiations.

  • Strengthen the recognition of coastal and marine Nature-based solutions, including blue carbon ecosystems, as important approaches for climate mitigation, adaptation, and resilience, both globally and in Southeast Asia

  • Highlight experiences and best practices from ASEAN member states, identifying lessons learned, common barriers, and opportunities to strengthen the integration and implementation of coastal and marine NbS in policy and practice.
