Books & Booze: White Nights [ENG]
A month of exploring loneliness, human connection, and the fleeting encounters that can alter us in unexpected ways.
In an increasingly connected world, many of us still experience moments of profound solitude. We move through busy schedules, crowded rooms, and endless digital conversations, yet meaningful connection often remains elusive. Sometimes, the briefest encounters leave the deepest impressions, reminding us of our desire to be truly seen and understood.
For this edition of Books & Booze, we will explore White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky, a tender and deeply human novella that follows a solitary dreamer through four luminous summer nights in Saint Petersburg. Through an unexpected connection with a young woman, the story reflects on longing, hope, imagination, and the bittersweet nature of relationships that are not meant to last.
Join us for an intimate evening of conversation, reflection, and connection as we unpack themes of loneliness, emotional vulnerability, romantic idealism, and the courage required to open ourselves to others. Together, we will consider how temporary encounters can shape our lives, why we sometimes choose fantasy over reality, and what it means to seek belonging in a world that can often feel isolating. As always, the discussion is designed to be accessible and engaging whether you have read the entire book or are simply curious about its themes.
The evening will feature themed cocktails inspired by the novel’s dreamlike atmosphere and moonlit setting, creating a relaxed and reflective environment for meaningful conversation. Books & Booze gatherings are a signature Troisième Cercle ritual, offering space for thoughtful dialogue while strengthening the relationships that define our community.
Expect honest exchanges, new perspectives, and the kind of conversations that tend to linger long after the evening ends.
