ARTIFACTS: A Show & Tell for Vintage Tech Hardware
Please join us at New Stadium in Toronto for the first edition of ARTIFACTS.
About ARTIFACTS
ARTIFACTS is a recurring show & tell event for tech gadgets of the past. You’re invited to bring a vintage device, share what it got right, what it got wrong, and what it quietly predicted about the future.
For the first edition, you are invited to dig up your old iPod, Gameboy, your first phone, an old MP3 player, a Zune, or any other vintage device that you once loved but maybe forgot about, and share what it means to you. The more niche, the better. If you don’t have a device, you’re also welcome to come, learn, and experience the gadgets that others bring with them. Future editions will explore specific themes, but for the first one, we’re keeping it open.
The format is loose: mingle with others, then we’ll move to a show & tell, where each person shares their artifact. We’ll collect all the devices on a table and sit around it so we can discuss them openly and freely. No need to have slides or prepare anything, just bring your device and share why it matters.
ARTIFACTS is capped at 20 participants, to keep it intimate and allow everyone a chance to share what they bring and experience each others’ tech.
Schedule
6:00 - 6:20 — Welcome & Settle in
Chat with others, and place your device on a large table for all to see as we begin the event.
6:20 - 6:30 — Intro
Gather around the table in a circle to see the full collection of everyone’s devices. I’ll give a short intro talk before we get to sharing.
6:30 - 8 — Show & Tell
We’ll go around the circle and have each person share what their devices mean to them, and discuss them in general.
About the Organizer
I’m Michael Mofina, a product designer who previously worked at Rabbit. I’m starting ARTIFACTS because Toronto has people who love this stuff and not enough places for them to find each other.
