About Event

The global centre of cultural gravity has shifted.

From Culinary Class Wars to KPop Demon Hunters and K-drama binge culture, South Korea is now setting the global agenda on taste — and the rest of the world is taking notes.

But behind the hype lies a deeper playbook of strategic expansion, culture-coded branding, and fearless market navigation.

To kick off the Atypical Asia Founder Fireside Chat series, we sit down with Sid Kim, founder of Vatos Urban Tacos and Golf X and CEO of Sage Partners, for an intimate fireside chat on global expansion and growth.

Sid will share candid lessons from building and scaling businesses in the demanding F&B, retail and lifestyle space, as well as from advising Korean and Singaporean companies on expanding into the U.S. — and in all three directions. The conversation will unpack what SMEs can learn from the Korean expansion playbook, particularly when scaling across the U.S., South Korea and Singapore — three markets with very different consumer expectations, cost structures and cultural nuances.

Programme:

5:00–5:30 PM — Registration

5:30–6:30 PM — Fireside Chat

6.30-7:30PM — Q&A and Mingling

7:30–9:00 PM — Optional Networking Dinner with Sid, Debbie and fellow founders at Vatos Urban Tacos (Limited to 12 spots)

This session will be recorded live for an upcoming episode of the Atypical Asia podcast.

Who This Is For

This session is designed for:

  • Founders and SME owners exploring expansion beyond their home market — especially between the U.S., Korea and Singapore

  • F&B, lifestyle, retail and consumer brand operators navigating growth in competitive, culturally sensitive markets

  • Investors, advisors and ecosystem partners working closely with growth-stage consumer brands

  • Business leaders and strategists curious about how Korean brands translate culture into scalable advantage

If you’re curious about global expansion and prefer hard-earned lessons over glossy case studies — this conversation is for you.

Stay On For More

If you'd like to linger for longer for deeper conversations with Sid or Debbie, we welcome you to join our optional networking dinner with fellow founders happening after the fireside chat, which will feature off-menu favourites and upcoming new dishes from the Vatos team.

If you have any enquiries or would like to collaborate with us on any part of the programme, get in touch with Debbie.
