The Ocean-Climate Nexus
The ocean covers over 70% of our planet yet it remains one of the most underutilised tools in the fight against climate change. This June, we're bringing together scientists, innovators, policymakers, and advocates to explore what's at stake, what's possible, and what needs to change.
The Ocean-Climate Nexus is a flagship evening event as part of London Climate Action Week 2026, organised by the Sustainable Ocean Alliance UK Hub and the LBS Alumni Sustainability Club. Now in its third year, this event has become a key gathering for ocean-climate advocates in London.
This event is the evening culmination of a day of public engagement organised by the Ocean Hub at LCAW. During the day, SOA are hosting an interactive art installation in Golden Square, Soho, encouraging creativity and education through art and activism. Themes woven into SOA's interactive 'artivism' installation will mirror the conversations unfolding onstage throughout the evening.
Over one evening, we'll move through the full ocean-climate story, from the principles of ocean governance, to cutting-edge marine carbon removal and offshore renewables, to the geopolitics and human stories shaping the movement.
The evening includes:
3 expert panels
2 keynote addresses
Networking reception
Topics covered:
Principles of ocean governance
Biodiversity, climate regulation and overexploitation
Blue carbon, mCDR and offshore renewable energy
AI and emerging ocean technologies
Geopolitics, inclusion and representation
Ocean storytelling and sustaining hope
