Friday Flourishing Friendships Group
Aristotle identifies three kinds of friendships:
Friendships for mutual pleasure,
Friendships for mutual profit, and
Friendships for mutual flourishing.
This third kind of flourishing friendship is also called a friendship of virtue, where we are invested in becoming the best that we can be, with specific others that are interested in bringing out the best in us. In flourishing friendships, our joy is shared, our sorrows are halved, and our successes are multiplied.
For the spring of 2026, our Friday Workshops will be designed to nurture flourishing friendships and provide a nurturing deadline to make progress on work that matters to us. To do so, Sean Waters will host a kind of traditional writing workshop, where we will get to know ourselves and specific others better through the work that matters to each of us.
Please bring some of your writing to "workshop" your process and product with a friend. If you don't have a draft ready, come to offer feedback. Please arrive on time to be paired with a partner or small group. If you want to stay on after the 50 minutes, the Zoom room will remain open. These sessions will not be recorded.
FORMAT: After brief introductions around an inspiring theme, we will do a brief 3 minute writing activity, then split into small groups of pairs or trios to provide peer-review and feedback in a way that nurtures self-awareness and craft-awareness for all involved.
