Voice to text with Susan Finch
Bring your words off the page and into the body in this immersive Voice to Text workshop led by renowned voice and dialect coach Susan E. Finch.
Susan is a celebrated coach for film and theater whose work spans Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theater, and screen. Her Broadway credits include Girl From the North Country and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, with additional coaching across major institutions such as The Public Theater, Signature Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, and McCarter Theatre. Her film dialect work includes Triumph of the Will, Clickbait, and Warpath.
For over 30 years, Susan created and led the speech department at Atlantic Theater School (NYU), where she served as Department Head. She has also taught at The Juilliard School, Actors Connection, Playwrights Horizons, Marymount Manhattan College, and American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She is a recipient of the Drama League Award and the Edith Skinner Prize for Speech, and a Voice Fellow at The Public Theater’s Shakespeare Lab.
This workshop focuses on helping actors move from written text to embodied, expressive speech. Using tools rooted in classical voice, speech, and dialect work, Susan guides actors toward greater clarity, ease, and emotional connection so the text feels alive, personal, and fully supported by the voice.
In this workshop, you will learn how to:
Release tension that interferes with vocal freedom
Connect breath, thought, and impulse to the text
Speak with greater clarity, resonance, and specificity
Honor the structure of the text while making it feel personal
Access emotional truth through sound, rhythm, and language
Bring heightened awareness and ease into auditions and performance
Designed for actors who want to deepen their relationship to language, this session offers a rigorous yet supportive space to strengthen vocal presence and unlock more truthful, grounded storytelling.
