The Hero's Journey: The First Wound
The First Wound
Exploring the first wound that shapes us and calls us forward.
This Emerald Tent begins a multi-part journey through the Hero’s Journey—an ancient pattern of transformation shared across cultures and throughout human life.
While the story we explore comes from Iron John—rooted in the much older European folk tale Iron Hans, passed down through generations—this experience is designed for both men and women, as it speaks to something universal: the inner spark of the human journey toward growth, change, and becoming.
In this series, each Tent explores a different stage along that path. This evening begins with the first step: the wound—the moment something shifts, a choice is made, and life begins to change.
The Experience (Arc of the Evening)
The Emerald Tent follows a clear, guided flow over the course of the hour:
A guided, forest-based meditation with gentle sound to help settle the body and transition out of the day
A selected story or myth—spoken and brought to life in the tradition of old
Small triads of reflection, inspired by the question that arises from the story
Gentle somatic grounding practices and collective humming to tone the nervous system and cohere the community
An optional afterglow to connect in community, with tea and simple offerings—nuts and berries (and a touch of sweetness)
There is nothing to fix. Nothing to perform.
Only space to reflect, connect, and reconnect with what is true for you at a time when the world is calling this in.
A Distinctive Experience
This is a distinct and intentionally crafted experience—designed for those who feel a pull toward something deeper, and who are curious to explore that space in the presence of others.
