About Event

Join us for an insightful webinar with Dr. Hanan Hashem and Uzma Malik as we explore community-based approaches to addressing intergenerational trauma in Muslim communities.

A persistent challenge in Muslim mental health is the experience of isolation in navigating intergenerational trauma. Rooted in Healing was developed to bridge the gap between individual therapy and communal care by integrating education with relational practice. This hybrid model combines seven multimedia modules on trauma, relationships, and spirituality with seven-session facilitated process groups for Muslim adults.

Drawing on Islamic traditions of storytelling, ritual, and gathering, the groups create a culturally responsive space where participants can explore intergenerational wounds through both self-reflection and communal witnessing. Two pilot groups (N=7) are currently underway, with pre- and post-test data examining shifts in trauma burden, social support, and hope. The presentation will share preliminary findings, key lessons learned, and future directions for facilitator training, program expansion, and ongoing interpersonal process groups.
