Invite-only Investor Roundtable @ Tech BBQ
From Investor Interest to Capital Deployment
What De-risks Cross-Border Investment in African Innovation Ecosystems?
African startup ecosystems are producing increasingly investable companies, attracting global talent and generating growing investor interest. Yet despite this momentum, much international capital remains on the sidelines.
What helps investors move from market curiosity to actual capital deployment?
As part of the Africa-Europe Digital Innovation Bridge (AEDIB) and its Building Investor Bridges (BIB) initiative, this invitation-only roundtable brings together a curated group of African and European investors, family offices, venture capital funds, angel investors, ecosystem builders and investment support organisations to explore the practical realities of cross-border investing.
Over the past two years, AEDIB has worked across multiple African innovation ecosystems, convening investors, ecosystem leaders and support organisations to better understand what drives investment decisions and what prevents capital from flowing. Through investor missions, roundtables and ecosystem engagements, a common theme has emerged: the challenge is often not a lack of capital, but a lack of trusted pathways to deploy it.
This discussion moves beyond ecosystem promotion and startup showcasing to focus on the investor journey itself:
Where does investor interest break down?
What role do trusted local partners play?
Which de-risking mechanisms actually influence investment decisions?
How can syndication, market intelligence and investor networks accelerate deployment?
What practical actions can strengthen the Africa-Europe investment corridor?
Drawing on experiences from Zambia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo, participants will share lessons from the front lines of investing and ecosystem building.
