About Event

The International Network for Criminal Justice, working with the Probation Institute, is hosting a series of international online events looking at the growing role of technology and artificial intelligence in rehabilitation work across probation, prisons, and community justice settings.

These events will explore how digital tools and AI are being used in practice, what this means for people working directly with individuals under supervision, and how innovation can sit alongside a clear, human-centred approach to rehabilitation.

The discussions will focus on practical experience rather than technical detail, with particular attention to inclusion, fairness, and respect for ethnic diversity, gender, and neurodiversity.

A key aim is to demystify AI and technology, and to support practitioners and policymakers to feel more confident about how these tools can strengthen, rather than replace, professional judgement and relationships.

The international round-table discussion will provide an opportunity to reflect on and build upon the themes and questions raised during the earlier webinar. Bringing together contributors, practitioners, and invited participants, the session will focus on what has emerged from the initial discussions and how these issues are being experienced in practice across different settings and jurisdictions.

The round-table will explore how technology and artificial intelligence are currently shaping rehabilitation work, what challenges remain unresolved, and where there is a need for greater clarity, confidence, or guidance for practitioners and policymakers.

The emphasis will be on shared learning, practical insight, and constructive discussion rather than formal presentations. The conversation will inform the development of a short position paper capturing key points, areas of agreement, and questions for further consideration.
