Black October
The potential for catastrophic AI misuse and cyberattacks has never felt so proximate in The Netherlands as it did these last weeks.
Join us for a group discussion on the cybersecurity incident affecting Albert Heijn, Etos, and Gall & Gall, as their parent company Ahold Delhaize took key systems offline after detecting suspicious activity on 11 October. The disruption affected websites, apps, customer service, and home deliveries, while physical stores largely remained open.
The incident has become part of the wider “Black October” discussion, in which security incidents and disclosures were reported across 22 countries.
We will separate confirmed facts from speculation, discuss why precautionary shutdowns can be necessary, and consider what this means for critical retail infrastructure, supply chains, and the future of AI-assisted cyberattacks.
What to prepare
Pick an incident from this time, what happened, what vulnerabilities were exploited, and together we will discuss the similarities and what could be done!
