

Brian K’s Practical Skills Workshops Series: Unlocking the Secrets of Sewing Denim II (Workshop 4)

WORKSHOP #4: Assembling the components; Straps, Bib and pocket, Waistband and Skirt

Participant # (max): 10 - 15 ppl
Objective(s): The waistband brings everything together.
Preparing for pressing: Marking the wrong side of the fabric at twice the amount that you want to fold .
Using Magnetic Guides: Learn how to use magnetic guides to achieve precise, straight stitching, particularly when sewing along the edges of the straps and other key parts of your tote bag.
Strap Attachment Techniques: Understand how to securely attach the straps to the body of the tote bag, ensuring they are placed evenly and can withstand wear and tear.
Adjusting Tension and Stitching Settings: Learn how to adjust your machine’s tension and stitch settings for optimal results when sewing through thicker layers of denim.
Troubleshooting Strap Sewing: Learn to identify and solve common problems when sewing straps, such as uneven stitching, puckering, or difficulty sewing through multiple layers of denim.
Achieving Professional Finishes: Master techniques that create a polished, professional finish for your straps, making them both functional and stylish.
By the end of this session, students will have successfully sewn sturdy, well-constructed straps for their denim tote bags and learned to use magnetic guides to enhance their sewing precision and efficiency.

If you are a TMU student who requires workshop hours, these workshops can be used to fulfill those requirements. Your workshop sheet will be signed at the fourth and final workshop.
