From Resource to Relationship: Shifting away from separation
For generations, we have been taught to see the earth as a collection of resources. Timber. Water. Minerals. Land. Even the language we use reinforces this story: natural “resources,” suggest the living world exists for us to use, own, and extract from.
We inherit a lot of ideas about nature, that it is separate, that it is merciless, that it needs saving. These narratives shape us unintentionally and carry deep ramifications for the kinds of worlds we are creating. But when we look closer, we see a different story — one where nature is not a resource to be exploited, but rather the most important relationship of our species. It has always defined our lives, provided us with the gifts to exist on this planet and calmed our hearts in times of turmoil.
We have always been part of a larger web of life. Maybe we just need to re-member?
Join us for a gathering to re-member our relationship with nature. Not only as an intellectual act, but as a practice of bringing ourselves back into the living world. While remembering is about retrieving information, re-membering is about reconnecting with what has been fragmented, forgotten, or separated.
What we will:
Examine the narratives about nature we have inherited and create the space to process them and what they mean.
Explore what narratives and relationships we wish we embodied
Bridge the gap between where we are and where we would like to be via a futuring exploration.
Inspired by relationships built on an economy of gifts, this event is an exchange of gifts. By joining you can gift yourself the time and attention to engage with a topic that is often ignored in our perpetually busy lives but impacts our happiness and future. Your presence, ideas and unique experiences are also gifts to everyone as we co-create together.
This gathering is for anyone who:
feels like the ways we relate with nature won’t cut it in the future we want to create.
are looking for better ways to incorporate nature in their work/practice
want to feel supported by us and others in these huge relational and ecological burdens.
We think it is time to build intentional narratives about how we relate to nature and share the journey of getting from where we are to where we want to be — Do you want to co-create with us?
Who is hosting?
The event is a collaboration between DesignShifts and Soil to Grow and facilitated by Ida Persson and Athanasios Christopoulos.
