​A one-eyed giant. A woman who turns men into pigs. Something in the water that eats sailors.

​People have been telling these stories for three thousand years, and others have been asking: okay, but what was it really?

The Greeks had answers, the Romans had different ones, and movie directors had other ideas.

​Some of those answers are clever, some are ridiculous, one or two might even be right.

​Ariadna is a classicist, and this is what she actually works on: not what the Odyssey means, but what happens to these stories over time and who keeps rewriting the monsters. She'll take a few of them and follow them all the way back.

​You don't need to have read the Odyssey or seen the film to follow the lecture.

​Agenda

6:30 PM – Doors open: find a seat (open seating!), order food & drinks, and expect a bar line, arriving early is key.
