About Event

Governments will sometimes disappoint their own supporters through their decisions and actions, and a Labour government is no exception. It’s not a failure of government, it's simply what happens when a broad coalition meets the realities of governing. The question is how campaigners should respond when issues they care about are overlooked, deprioritised or undermined by a government they still want to succeed.

This session will explore the role of pressure and disagreement in a healthy democracy, drawing lessons from those who have campaigned successfully. We'll showcase campaigns that have pushed back effectively on the issues that matter to them, and dig into what made the difference: how they built pressure, which arguments actually landed, and what was learned.

Speakers include:

  • Kirsty McNeill MP, Minister of State for International Development

  • Sofie Jenkinson, Founding Director, Round Our Way

  • Kane Emerson, Head of Housing Research, YIMBY Alliance

This event is part of The Campaign Fringe, a full day of events, training sessions, and exhibits. For more details and to see the rest of the agenda, see here.
