Volunteer Drop In @ Grounds Krewe!
Come help us build a more sustainable Mardi Gras by assembling some of our latest sustainable throw alternatives! If you've ever wanted to get involved with our mission to create a more sustainable NOLA event culture, this is it!
Stop by anytime in the event window to learn more about our mission and help us make it a reality.
Activities are simple, seated & social, such as:
Assembling (inserting & tying) product bags of jambalaya, grits, popcorn, etc. into jute/burlap bags.
Packaging items such as postcard sets, colored chalk or pencil kits into boxes.
Adding stickers to & filling aluminum jars with biodegradable glitter or hand scrub.
Open to the public 18 & over. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (one adult per child).
No special skills or experience needed.
Typically, all events will be located indoors in A/C, unless weather permits outdoor activities in our front yard.
Bathrooms & water are provided. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle to refill!
Wear comfortable clothes/shoes. You will have a chair, but may need to move around during the event.
Why We Need Your Help: Mardi Gras festivities create over 2.7 million pounds of waste each year. Much of this waste comes from imported, low quality, cheap Mardi Gras throws that are often made under bleak and undesirable working conditions. The majority of Grounds Krewe’s sustainable throws are sourced and assembled within the U.S., and more specifically, within Louisiana. While this means that our throws have the benefit of supporting local businesses, it also means that the labor cost will never be as low as imported throws. One way we aim to reduce this cost is through leveraging volunteer help from corporate groups, conferences, clubs, schools and other local organizations. Our volunteers are vital to achieving our vision of a more sustainable, community-powered Mardi Gras that doesn’t send millions of dollars overseas every year.
