Slow rhythmic breathing techniques used in SOMA Breath are safe and beneficial for most individuals.
However, forceful mouth breathing, prolonged breath holds, and extended intense fast breathing/hyperventilation (5+ minutes) should NOT be practiced if you have:
- Severe / critical diseases or infections affecting breathing
- Severe uncontrolled hypertension (typically post-heart attack)
- Organ failure or late-stage terminal illness
- Pregnancy
- Epilepsy, a pacemaker, or irregular heartbeat
(Unless specifically cleared by a doctor)
Some conditions (e.g., tinnitus, hernias) may be aggravated by intense breathing or long breath retention. Please listen to your body and adapt the technique gently.
