​Our front garden, sandwiched between the crossroads and our flat, is a unique location that spans the spectrum of the artificial and the natural, the private and the public. Other than wilderness being First and functional landscaping being Second Nature, Jacopo Bonfadio referred to gardens as Third Nature, a special place-making that amalgamates human artistic intentions and nature.

​We share the same garden as flatmates, yet we stand at different vantage points within it; our understanding of the garden lands us in different positions on its fundamental spectrum.

​

​Wan Yee’s position dissects her fascination with the relationship and boundaries between controlled private areas and the living component of the garden. Her distant, almost investigative approach stemmed from her excessive time spent at home as a freelancer. Stepping out of the flat into the garden, she occupies the position within Third Nature as the artificial.

​

​Zhilin’s position, on the other hand, remains stagnant on the garden fence. Until now, the priorities of her life stage have kept her outside the garden. With regret but alert, she is still not ready to fully engage with the garden. Hence, she chooses stagnation on the fence separating the public and the garden, observing this boundary that shifts with her stages of life, as the weeds remain between the concrete. Zhilin occupies the position within Third Nature as the nature.

​By creating this exhibition and expressing our intimate perspectives on our garden, we are emphasising the incorporation of art into the Third Nature. We wish to invite you to feel the tension, ambiguity and curiosity with us on:
