Not Born Here: Tour & Dinner @ the MAK
Back and even better! A guided MAK tour and dinner with strangers not born here - exploring Vienna through design, and how to design a life in this city
By popular demand we're going into the second round of the Not Born Here MAK Tour & Dinner.
This is an experience custom-made for internationals in Vienna: a night to get to know the city through the design of its everyday objects, then sit down for dinner with other people trying to design a life in a city they weren’t born in.
Together with the MAK, Vienna Würstelstand is taking Vienna’s international and internationally-minded crowd through the exhibition WIEN 1900 – Alltag. Gesamtkunstwerk - a guided cultural experience exploring Vienna around 1900 through design, everyday life, the Wiener Werkstätte, Secession-era ideas, and the very Viennese concept of turning life itself into a total work of art. Casual stuff, obviously.
We thought it would be interesting to look at Vienna not through the usual “pretty buildings, imperial drama, Sisi again” lens, but through the things people actually lived with: chairs, interiors, coffee rituals, craft, ornament, and all the objects that shaped daily life.
Because Vienna is a city made of designed rituals. And for those of us who live here but didn’t grow up here, understanding those rituals can be baffling.
You spoke, we listened: to have more time for questions and discovery, we split the tour into two smaller groups. While one group tours the museum, the other will have time to see some of the other rooms, connect with us, and soak in the beautiful surroundings.
After the tour, we’ll sit down for dinner and talk about the other kind of design: how we design our own lives here.
The routines we’re building, the homes we miss, the friendships we’re trying to make, and the occasional feeling that we’re all cosplaying as functioning locals.
This is a museum tour meets dinner club meets the Not Born Here community.
It’s not 'look at pretty things in a museum and then politely vanish into the U-Bahn.'
It’s a night for people who live in Vienna, love it, question it daily, and want to meet others doing the same - one beautiful object and slightly awkward dinner conversation at a time.

Please arrive on time: the tour starts at 6 PM sharp
Dinner: at 8 PM we'll head over for dinner (TBD)
Important note: your ticket does not include the cost of dinner and drinks. Dinner and drinks will be paid separately on the night.
