chijü: a living art experience
what is your body trying to tell you?
chijü is a living art experience by Chao Dou, experience architect, embodiment activator, and artist. her original artwork, a visual language for chi, carries the journey for an evening from her reconnection to her roots towards her own becoming. free and open to the public.
in chinese culture, chi runs through traditional chinese medicine, philosophy, and many cultural practices, food therapy, feng shui, martial arts, and more. chijü takes its name from 气质 (qìzhì), the quality of one's energy, the presence someone carries.
step into a three-part experience inspired by her childhood, raised by her grandfather in china in a home he turned into a free healing space for anyone who needed help.
reading: a traditional chinese medicine doctor reads your chi and what your body needs through your pulse and tongue. you will get ear seeding and a wristband to mark the chi you carry through the night
restore: from your reading, food and tea are laid out as a chi diagram, cooling to warming, to tune your body toward balance
remember: move through her original artwork, leave a note on what it stirred, a memory, a person, a place, or a message to Chao, or to whoever reads it next
come by anytime and move through the experience at your own pace, we suggest 30-60 minutes.
a chaosmos experience, created by Chao Dou, for LA Design Week/end, hosted and sponsored by SitOnIt.
come as you are, leave a little more whole 🌞🐉✨
Chao Dou is an experience architect, embodiment activator and artist. Raised between China, the United States, and Singapore, she grew up watching her grandfather turn their living room into a space for the community, offering free treatments to anyone around them. Healing began with listening to the body.
With over a decade of architecture, interior design, and workplace strategy, she brings a rare understanding of how environment, culture and body shape each other.
Her practice chaosmos creates playgrounds for rediscovering your body, creativity, and sense of aliveness - through multisensory experiences that blend movement, intuition, art, and collective play. Guided by the belief that 'knowledge is only a rumor until it lives in the body', she designs spaces where the thinking mind and the sensing body meet.
LA Design Week/end is a week long celebration of design across Los Angeles, bringing together studios, brands, and artists throughout the city.
