Code Engineering: From Coding Agents to Software Factories

Following the strong response to Harness Engineering: State of the Art in Agent Harnesses, which attracted more than 1,000 people on Luma, Agent Engineering HQ returns to San Francisco 🌉 for the next event in the *.engineering series.

Coding agents can now navigate large repositories, plan changes, write and refactor code, execute tools, run tests, review pull requests and work asynchronously. The next technical challenge is to connect these capabilities into reliable systems that can operate across the complete software development lifecycle. The industry is developing several engineering disciplines around this problem:

Context Engineering. Memory Engineering. Harness Engineering. Eval Engineering. Loop Engineering. Graph Engineering. Recursion Engineering

How do these disciplines relate to one another? What engineering practices are required when coding agents move from assisting individual developers to operating as coordinated software-production systems? Can Code Engineering provide a common framework for the transition from coding agents to Software Factories?

This event will bring together engineers and companies building coding agents, agent harnesses, execution infrastructure, verification systems and Software Factories to investigate these questions.

We are not presenting a predetermined definition of Code Engineering. Each speaker will bring a different technical perspective based on systems they are building and operating. The objective is to identify the boundaries of the field, compare emerging architectures and determine which problems still need to be solved.

Topics

The technical program will examine:

  • Context, memory and repository intelligence for coding agents

  • Harness design, tool use, permissions and execution environments

  • Loop Engineering and the design of autonomous execution cycles

  • Graph-based coordination across agents, tools and development stages

  • Recursive planning, delegation, verification and error recovery

  • Multi-agent orchestration across the software development lifecycle

  • The architecture and operating model of agent-native Software Factories

Format

The event will combine concise technical presentations coding agent companies and infra companies supporting the coding agents and software factories.
