As an adult, successful filmmaker Salvatore receives news that Alfredo, the projectionist from his Sicilian childhood, has died. The message brings back memories of young Totò sneaking into the village’s Cinema Paradiso and the unlikely friendship that grew between the boy and Alfredo, who introduced him to the magic of movies.
