​In a small Calabrian village hollowed out by population loss, an old man approaches the end of his life. Frammartino watches with a quiet gaze and an unmistakable thread of humour. The lead is played by the director’s own grandfather, Angelo Frammartino; no professional actors appear, and the film was made together with the people who live there. Tradition and modernity, life and death, community and solitude settle into an almost wordless 80-minute film poem. Newly restored in 4K, the shifting light and tactile detail of Calabria return to the screen with extraordinary presence.
