About Event

Participate in a meaningful conversation around the role of AI in our lives, powered by the Birmingham Claude Community.

AI has moved from headline to household reality, reshaping how nonprofits serve clients, how small businesses operate, and how our neighbors work and learn. Whether we welcome that change or view it with healthy skepticism, Birmingham's response should not be left to chance…or decided somewhere else.

Our Claude Community along with the Community Foundation is co-hosting this conversation because the promise, concern, and complexity of AI merit a proactive community response.

You're invited to participate as one of 40 local leaders, visionaries, and legacy builders for a two-hour conversation on the role artificial intelligence (AI) can and should play in our complex world:  Friday, August 21, 1:00–3:00 p.m. at the Community Foundation.

We'll be exploring this big question, "What's the role of humans in a world with powerful AI systems?"

Human initiative, imagination, accountability, judgment, relationships, and clear thinking will become more important as AI handles more of our daily work.

This is a challenging, discussion-first gathering for Birmingham. Together, we'll explore where those human qualities show up in our own lives, what threatens or strengthens them, and how we can nurture them in our community.

There will be no expert panel, pitch, or lecture. We'll sit at small tables with people we may not know, take the question seriously, and work through it together.

This event is open to anyone who wants to think deeply about the next few years and explore how we can take real action toward better outcomes for Birmingham's citizens. No technical background or prior Claude experience required.

By the end of the conversation, we aim to identify a few practical, concrete problems to carry into a our Claude Community Impact Lab the following Friday on August 28.

Our event the following week is a separate event and there's no expectation that you join for both events, but we'd love to have you if you're interested.
