  • 11:30 am – 12:00 pm - Transitioning into Leadership: from Contributor to a Maintainer/manager in Open Source (Anita ihuman)

As contributors begin their journey into Open source, they gain new skills and experience that increase their capacity and impact their careers and the communities they contribute to. Most of these contributors may consider maintainer/management roles within the community they find themselves in. While both contributors and managers are seen as problem solvers within the community, they solve problems differently. As someone who transitioned from a beginner in tech and open source to leadership roles in open-source communities, I would love to share the secret to advancing your career through open source. We will look at the difference between an individual contributor’s role and a manager's role in a community during this session. We'll also discuss the steps to transitioning into a managerial role as a contributor and how to fit into this role.
