how to be a climate activist at work and beyond (dinner included)
Make friends who care about stuff at Soapbox Seattle, the city's most fun community space for climate action!
We're having a party for people who care about the planet. Same time, same place, every week. You're invited. Request a reparative ticket here if you need one.
56 years ago, the modern environmental movement was born: what have we learned since? Join us for a cheeky, sensory-fueled, and slightly provocative Earth Day session that explores the history of environmental activism, and reflects on the findings of the new book “The Green Handprint at Work: How to Be an Employee Activist for Sustainability.”
We’ll take an irreverent look at Earth Day’s roots, followed by a live Q&A with the author and wrap up with playful, sensory exercises that demystify the label activist and explore what workplace climate action actually looks, feels, and yes - even smells like. Expect short, practical takeaways you can try at work immediately—no permission slip required!
Hosted by Drew Wilkinson: sustainability consultant, community organizer, and climate activist. He works for Planet Earth but provides consulting services for employee engagement through the Climate Leadership Collective, helping organizations make sustainability part of everybody's job. In a past life, he founded Microsoft's 10,000 member employee sustainability community, toured the world in a punk band, and was an eco-pirate for Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.
Author Babette Julia Brinkmann will join us live from Germany to share her research and help us learn how to take effective climate action at work.
The plan:
6~7pm: eat plant-based dinner and yap
7~8:30pm: presentation, live Q&A with Babette Julia Brinkmann, author of “The Green Handprint at Work” + sensory mapping exercise: a collective experience to make the intangible suddenly visceral
8:30-9pm: continued mingling
Doors open at 6pm. Arrive by 6:30 to eat before things get started. Announcements will begin at 6:45, and programming at 7.
This space is hosted by Soapbox Project, a nonprofit that creates joyful community structures to heal our climate anxiety and loneliness through expertly facilitated connection, learning, and action activities. Find your place in the climate movement with our online and in-person community!
