Renewed Women’s Health StrategyReading Club // Session 1 led by @hy_stera
A DIY feminist reading series. No expertise required, just some lived experience of the women's and gender health crisis.
I am setting this up as an experiment, informed by our recent Women's Health Strategy reading circle at the Endo Violence Clinix, where we largely read nothing but talked about the issues that affect us directly.
We are gathering regularly to read, recite, interpret, question, and study the Renewed Women's Health Strategy. Not as policy wonks. As people it affects.
Rooted in the tradition of feminist consciousness-raising circles and the radical health education movements of the 1970s and 80s, this reading club treats policy as something that belongs to us, not to institutions. Like the women who passed around mimeographed copies of Our Bodies, Ourselves and gathered in living rooms to name what medicine had refused to, we are claiming the right to read the documents that govern our bodies, slowly and on our own terms.
Each session will dig into a small section of the text. We unpack it, sit with it, and use it as a tool to hold politicians accountable for their words. Artivism, collective reading, and creative methods are how we study.
all organised in crip time. Come as you are. Wear pyjamas, lie on your bed, snack, walk around, engage, do not engage, observe. All forms of [non] participation are welcome.
This is an inclusive feminist safe space. By signing up you agree to:
respect all genders, bodies, and experiences
keep what is shared in the room, in the room
make space for others to speak
not centre your own experience at the expense of others
accept that we are all at different points in our learning
The Luma link to join will be sent out on Sunday.
The first session is led by HYSTERA/ alicja pawluczuk.
