About Event

Join us at Fridman Gallery for the closing of Dindga McCannon's exhibition titled Yesterday and Today. In addition, Dindga McCannon will present a fashion show featuring garments she has created over the years.

Born and raised in Harlem, Dindga came of age as an artist and young mother during the rise of feminist art and the civil rights movement. Dindga began her career studying with Jacob LawrenceCharles AlstonRichard Mayhew, and Al Loving at the Art Students League of New York and with Robert Blackburn at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop.

Dindga went on to become a pillar of the influential African-American art collective Weusi, and a co-founder (with Faith Ringgold and Kay Brown) of Where We At, the first African-American women artist collective. Throughout Dindga’s career, she created space for her own artistic exploration while building a support network for generations of Black artists.
