UK MARC: From Market Abuse Rules to Effective Surveillance
As crypto asset markets mature and regulatory scrutiny increases, firms operating in the sector must be prepared to identify, prevent, and respond to market abuse risks. Whether you are a Crypto-Asset Trading Platform (CATP), intermediary, or another market participant, understanding your obligations is critical to maintaining market integrity and regulatory compliance.
In this webinar, we will explore the fundamentals of market abuse, including what constitutes market abuse and the key typologies identified by regulators, supported by practical examples from crypto markets. We will discuss the general compliance obligations that apply across the sector, as well as the specific requirements for CATPs and intermediaries, with particular focus on the enhanced obligations that may apply to larger trading platforms.
The session will also examine how these requirements compare with other regulatory frameworks, including the market abuse provisions under MiCA Title VI, highlighting areas of alignment and divergence that firms operating across jurisdictions should be aware of. If time permits, we will conclude with a discussion of insider dealing risks, including practical considerations for employee personal trading and the controls firms can implement to support compliance.
By the end of the session, participants will have a clearer understanding of market abuse risks in crypto markets and the steps their organisations can take to build and maintain an effective compliance framework.
