About Project NANDA
Project NANDA, emerging from MIT, is an open-source and open-governance initiative building foundational infrastructure for an open Internet of AI Agents. Its work explores how personal, enterprise, civic, and public-service agents can discover one another, establish identity and trust, communicate across organizational boundaries, and collaborate on behalf of people. Key initiatives include NANDA Index, an open discovery and resolution layer for agents; NandaTown, a sandbox and test environment for building and experimenting with interoperable agents; research on agent identity, permissions, trust, governance, and agent-to-agent communication; and a growing open-source ecosystem for the agentic web. Project NANDA also runs a Fellows Program, bringing together students, researchers, builders, and entrepreneurs to develop new protocols, applications, and research directions, alongside hackathons, global university collaborations, civic pilots, and community programs aimed at making the emerging agent ecosystem open, interoperable, and broadly accessible.
