From Childhood Curiosity to Conservation Science: My Journey into Bioacoustics – with Dr. Sougata Sadhukhan
IEN Research Spotlights are community events hosted by the India Ecoacoustics Network (IEN), where we highlight works of researchers who employ acoustics to explore and understand their environments. These sessions are free and open to join for anyone with an interest in ecoacoustics and environmental research.
We invite you to the 13th IEN Research Spotlight featuring Dr. Sougata Sadhukhan who is currently an Assistant Professor at Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune. His journey began with a childhood curiosity— wondering what animals truly mean when they make sounds. That question unexpectedly led him to study wolf vocalizations for population estimation and eventually shaped his PhD in wildlife ecology from the Wildlife Institute of India. Today, his work focuses on using bioacoustics techniques to monitor biodiversity and transform sound data into actionable insights for wildlife conservation. Driven by a passion for bridging science and real-world impact, he continues to explore how listening to nature can help protect it.
