Public Goods Staking Protocol 1st Cohort - Builder Space #23
We're kicking off the 1st PGSP cohort with a real conversation about where community staking goes next, joined by Kody (Obol) and Dimitri (Lido).
The thesis: there's a gap between solo home staking and institutional staking, and community staking is the middle path. Lido CSM and Obol DVT are the rails that make that path real. This Space is about how it gets built, and who walks it.
The Public Goods Staking Protocol (PGSP) is how the Greenpill Dev Guild turns Ethereum validator yield into perpetual funding for environmental, science, and social initiatives. Squads of community stakers run DVT-secured validators on Lido CSM, and the rewards flow into Octant Vaults that fund public goods. Ethereum itself is a public good, and a decentralized validator set is how it stays one, so squad staking sits upstream of everything else we build.
The conversation
🛰️ State of staking, fast. CSM as the largest permissionless module on Ethereum, CSM v3 + IDVTC (4-member squads, 1.5 ETH first-key bond) shipping Q2/Q3, Hoodi as the new testnet, Pluto bringing real DVT client diversity, and the Obol Techne → ICS pipeline now carrying ~70% of applicants.
🌉 Closing the gap. The middle path between solo and institutional staking. What does it actually take to run a validator with your community? Where do Lido and Obol meet you, and where do you still have to bring your own grit?
🛡️ Privacy, censorship resistance, and the AI question. DVT and CSM didn't come from nowhere. They're the latest chapter in a years-long push for a more censorship-resistant validator set. Now AI is reshaping every layer of the stack: block building, validator ops, agent-operated infra. What does a credibly neutral, AI-era Ethereum need from its stakers? And how does community staking become the substrate the rest of crypto-AI runs on top of?
🌱 The groundswell. Why the CSM framing matters: community staking isn't just funding public goods, it is one. How do we build the on-ramp that gets thousands of squads, not dozens, running validators?
Cohort kickoff
We're spinning up squads on Hoodi using Obol's launchpad so members can run a real DV cluster, accumulate Experience category points, and submit Individual Community Staker (ICS) applications to Lido. The goal: get more public goods aligned builders ICS credentialed and ready for the IDVTC pathway as CSM v3 ships.
Who this is for: Greenpill chapters, would-be home stakers, regen builders, anyone thinking about how crypto-AI needs decentralized substrate, and folks curious about turning a slice of Ethereum's validator set into a perpetual funding engine for public goods. No prior staking experience required, squads form here.
