About Event

Fiduciary duty is still invoked as a mandate to maximize profits above all else. During Climate Week NYC, that assumption needs challenging.

This panel will explore when fiduciary duty practically comes into play and what is required of decision-makers across the spectrum in this era of heightened climate risk.

We will consider how stakeholders—investors, capital allocators, and founders—can control for fiduciary commitments in their corporate documents. We will also explore how and when fiduciary principles extend beyond contractual or statutory terms. Finally the panel argues the thesis: that climate-related risks and social impact need not be at odds with financial responsibility.

Join us for a conversation on the history, doctrine, and practical stakes of fiduciary duty, and what it means for founders, investors, fund managers, and the future of capital.
