Building the Foundations for Marine CDR in Africa
Africa has significant potential to contribute to the development of marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR). However, the sector is still at an early stage, requiring stronger research capacity, regional cooperation, investment and appropriate governance frameworks.
This session marks a soft launch of the Africa Marine CDR Roadmap and Partnership, co-designed through engagement with African regional bodies, academic institutions, research organisations and the private sector.
The discussion will explore how partnerships among governments, researchers, industry, investors, communities and regional organisations can establish the enabling conditions for responsible mCDR development in Africa.
The session will highlight priorities emerging from the Africa mCDR Roadmap, including science, financing, governance, community engagement, industry and innovation.
What to Expect
Participants will explore:
Strengthening African scientific and research capacity in marine CDR.
Mobilising financing and investment for African-led research and innovation.
