About Event

AI is already showing up in charity work, whether organisations have formally adopted it or not. Staff, volunteers, trustees and partners may already be experimenting with tools to draft, summarise, plan, research or rewrite content.

For LGBTQ+ organisations, this brings real opportunities, but also specific risks around identity, privacy, safeguarding, bias, misinformation and community trust.

We recognise that people come to AI from different ethical starting points, including concerns about data, safeguarding, bias and environmental impact. This session will take those concerns seriously while focusing on safe, practical first steps.

Led by two former charity Chief Executives with practical AI experience, this free introductory session is designed for CEOs and senior teams who want clear, grounded guidance from people who understand leadership pressure, limited capacity and the need to protect community trust.

What we will cover

In this 45-minute session, we will look at:

  • what AI and large language models are, in plain English

  • where AI may already be showing up in your organisation, including informal or “shadow” use

  • why AI is a leadership, governance, inclusion and trust issue for LGBTQ+ organisations

  • the key risks around sensitive information, identity, safeguarding, bias and misinformation

  • where AI can genuinely help with lower-risk tasks, and how to start safely

What you will leave with

By the end of the session, you will have:

  • a clearer understanding of what AI is, what it can do, and where its limits are

  • a practical way to think about lower-risk, medium-risk and higher-risk AI use

  • more confidence to ask the right questions about AI in your organisation

  • clearer boundaries around what should not go into free or public AI tools

  • a starting point for conversations with staff, volunteers and trustees

  • a handout with useful tips and ways to get started straight after the session

The aim is not to turn senior leaders into AI experts. It is to help you make informed, values-led decisions before informal AI use becomes embedded without shared understanding or oversight.
