About Event

We often imagine ourselves as rational, measured, and in control. But love has a way of redrawing those boundaries.

This Thursday, we share a story shaped by love under impossible circumstances. How do we decide what is worth risking? And how do we live with the choices we make?

Come expand your worldview with Rana Kazkaz.

Associate Professor at Northwestern University in Qatar, Prof. Rana's films have been recognised at major international festivals including Cannes, Sundance, Toronto, and Tribeca. Her work centres on Syrian stories, often exploring themes of displacement, identity, and human connection.

When asked about the tension in portraying such stories, she shares: “It took me years to realise that the intention to humanise can sometimes be the most dehumanising choice.”

An evening when slow bar meets shared perspectives, we gather around Mare Nostrum (2016), and explore what it means to protect someone when safety isn’t guaranteed.

The Space: Mad Roaster's Slow Bar (MRSB)

Tucked away in Redhill, MRSB is a Singaporean social enterprise founded by former lawyer Madeline Chan, creating livelihoods for refugees in Thailand.

Whether you're an advocate of human-centric living or learner of sorts, this is your space to exchange perspectives and stories with others, of love under pressure.

Fair warning: conversations may get unexpectedly thoughtful.
