Family Math Night: Burlingame Intermediate School
Join us for a dedicated Family Math Night designed around the MathFit framework. Our goal is to move beyond rote memorization and focus on the core pillars of mathematical mastery: Fluency, Logical Reasoning, and Conceptual Understanding
🧩 The MathFit Stations: Hands-On Challenges
Instead of standard worksheets, students will cycle through four stations designed to test different cognitive attributes. Each station focuses on active problem-solving and tactile learning:
Fluency: Activities focus on number sense and the ability to manipulate numbers flexibly.
Understanding: These challenges move past the "how" to the "why." By exploring number systems and logical structures, students demonstrate a deep conceptual grasp of the math they use every day.
Application: This is where it all comes together. Students face hands-on problems that require them to synthesize multiple concepts simultaneously to find a solution.
Reasoning: Students engage in visual and spatial challenges. These tasks require them to identify patterns, visualize geometric transformations, and use logical deduction to solve complex puzzles.
📝 The MathFit Quiz Competition
The evening includes a structured quiz designed to evaluate speed and accuracy under friendly competitive conditions.
Competition Time Slots: A phone or tablet is required for participation.
Grade 6: 5:00-5:20pm
Grade 7: 5:30-5:50pm
Grade 8: 6:00-6:20pm
🎓 Recognition & Progress
MathFit Certificate: Awarded to all participants for completing the stations
MathFit Quiz Reports: All students will receive a detailed report outlining their performance across the different sections of the quiz
Top Performer Awards: Medals and recognition for students demonstrating exceptional proficiency in the quiz rounds.
MathFit Swag: Every student goes away with some MathFit goodies
Important: Quizzes begin promptly. Please ensure your student is present at the start of their grade-level time slot.
